Can anyone explain how to read codes on a 1992 300D 2.5 turbodiesel?
I think i can do this with an analog voltmeter I see in the manual that pins 1 and 4 are used. When i put my meter on these pins all i see is 12 volts?
Can anyone explain how this works?

1992 300D codes

ok I bought the parts soldered them all together, started the engine.
Plugged the positive side into pin 4 plugged negative side into pin 1, LED lit
connected the ground alligator clip to the battery ground. pushed the button held it for 4 seconds, released it .............. nothing just a lit LED looking at me.
Any suggestions?

I'm not sure I understand how you're connecting the leads. The alligator clip goes to the positive post of the battery and the two other push pin leads go to #1 and #4 on the test port. You can try to swap those latter two positions to see if that changes anything. I think I built my tester with those two reversed.
