Purchased a 93 e300 Cabriolet, 114,000 miles on it. Badged as an E320 3.2 litre for the Fiancee.
On occasion will not start, mostly when warm but on occasion when cold.
Mercedes dealer changed out the fuel pumps, filter and relay, $850.00
still the problem persists.
Took to another recommended shop who at first said based on codes that the Electronic Throttle Control was intermittently working. But recommended changing out the Crank Position Sensor as this was far cheaper then the ETC.
Same problem, so changed out the ETC total bill $2700.00
Guess what, same problem.
I asked him to check out the Main Harness as I did not know if this had been changed out, any way to tell? What about the OVP relay? Would this cause the problem?
I could really use the collective advise of this board.
Thanks, John in the doghouse.
Sorry to hear this, it is very annoying. I can't provide a solution for you, but did you ask for the parts they swapped over back. I think you should get your old parts back - if there is nothing wrong with them you can of course sell them or keep them for spares. You can bet your bottom dollar that is what the garages will be doing with them otherwise......

Id replace the OVP , but I saw nothing about tune up parts which scares me. Cap rotor coil and plugs. Thats always the first place to start. You do have the right year for upper and lower engine wiring harnesses.

With this symptoms I'd first check and make sure the harness is good or had been replaced before proceeding with any further diagnostics or parts replacements.
So I had a chance to drive the car to-day, when warm needs to turn over a few seconds at a time (5 seconds max) two or three times then fires up and runs as smooth as silk. Went over a bump and the rear head rests that double as a roll bar popped up and of course the top would not go up or down, so off to the dealer who for no charge inserted a rod down beside front left and right of the headrest to release the dog holding them up and all was ok for that. Stopped for groceries and went back to the car after five minutes and it would not start at all. I had to get a ride home then go back after two hours and it fired up after turning over for about two five second cycles. Now the top does not want to go up on its on like it is low on fluid. That will be tomorrows chore. I'm sure a search of this board will tell me what type of fluid to use. I'm getting pretty annoyed at the prior owner who obviously neglected what I'm sure can and will be a fine car. The car will be back at the second Mechanic on Tuesday morning and they had better get this starting resolved. I will make a code reader tomorrow if I can pull any codes.
Frustrated beyond belief.
Well I took the advice offered on this board checked the Harness, it appears to be in excellent shape which leads me to believe it has been changed out at some point. Next on the list was the OVP relay which had corrosion on one of the pins, changed it out and the car has been starting as it should hot or cold. It has only been a few days but I feel confident about this as the symptoms appeared right away before. While I was under the hood I noticed that the Radiator which was original was leaking on the drivers side so that was changed out as well. Thanks to all for the advice offered.

Hope you changed it out with OE Nissens or Behr
The aftermarket brands do not have a inner metal neck and prematurely fail because of this.
