W124 E220 97Model - Fuel cut off while driving

The fuel suddenly cut off while I was driving and the car stopped pulling. There was plenty of fuel in the tank. After that, efforts to try and start it failed though it was cranking. After checking I discovered that fuel was not coming through.
The other time prior to this incident, the car failed to start in the morning. I took off the battery terminals and put them on back again and the car started after that. Since then (about amonth ago) I havent had any problems until now.

What could the problem be? fuel relay perhaps?

Are you sure your 124 is a 1997 model year? Perhaps you have a 210 chassis

Fuel pump relays would be my first check
Then pump
Then filter I guess

not sure what model you actually have but my '89 300e stopped while cruising but would start up again. It was the fuel pump relay (behind battery and next to the engine management computer)
