I have the opportunity to purchase a low milage coupe. It has about 70000 miles on it. It is a bit overpriced especially compared to what you would pay in NA or UK but seems to be very straight car.
I have read the stickies etc but my question is even though it should have many miles of driving left in it do they degrade a lot just with sheer age. It is after all essentially 20 years old or close to it.
I would be prepared to budget 2k a year (so if no repairs after say 3 years I would have 6k for work) is that realistic?
I was looking for one originally with a red interior, red leather etc but a few people told me that the red is not a durable color. Sounded incorrect to me but should I defer to their wisdom?
I am in no hurry to buy one as I want an original and low mileage one. This is possibly unrealistic but a car that will last with good maintenance another 20 years and have some style about it is what I am looking for. I suspect the W124 coupe may be that type of car.

No repairs for 3 years? It's not a MAGIC car...lol!
I think the guys around here would agree that it all depends on whether it's been maintained properly. You want to find out if the big ticket items have been replaced. Namely, the Head Gasket and the A/C Evaporator. Luckily my head gasket was already done along with all new brakes and rotors, full exhaust and vacuum pump. I paid $4,000 knowing I would have to deal with the evaporator at some point. Luckily the stop leak has held all summer, but I will still have it done in the spring along with all the vacuum pods while my mechanic is in there...Unless psycho would like to volunteer for free since he's an expert, lol I had to take a xanax when I saw his R&R Pics

Just a way of saying 2k a year each and every year. Maybe 4k one year, nothing the next, 3k the year after and so on etc.
No way you are going to get a decent and semi maintained 300ce in Aus for anything remotely close to $4000 even taking into account currency differences. A tired 88 model with high mileage can fetch 10k and if an ill informed buyer even more. I have seen good ones with service records for at least the first 100,000km go for as much as 18k. Not listed for that, actually sold.
