Smile M104 stumbling

90 CE was running beautifully, now it's begun missing or stumbling, like an intermittent misfire, like it's missing or something. I'm pretty sure the ignition system is in perfect order, (will get a look inside the dist. cap this weekend to be sure) So my first guess is that it's a prob with fuel: pump, filter, or fuel distributor. It will run fine then just a little hiccup here and there, however it's seeming to become more prevalent, getting worse. Do these have the same fuel distributor as the M103? I replaced one of those on my 87 300E years ago. Is it easy to repair a fuel distributor? Or could this be caused by something else? Thanks for any ideas!

Thanks Jayare, I will have a look friday nite or saturday AM. A guy I work with rode in the car and noticed how it was running, seems we both bought gas this week at the same station and he says his car is doing the same thing. Maybe we both got some bad gas. But I want to check the dist cap & rotor anyhow since I've had the car a year now and have never looked in there. Will report back what I find! Hope you are enjoying the summer.

At 5:30 this morning the "feel like" temp was 90 here on the west coast of the east coast. At the summer home in North Carolina it's 63. I'm heading back up there in 10 days, then I'll enjoy the summer.

Jim

PS - dump a quart of rubbing alcohol in the tank. That will break up any water molecules there and let them pass through the system. Still, pull the cap and rotor, clean and replace. On occasion, my CE will exhibit the same behavior.

When you pull the cap off make sure you check the outside of the cap underneath the black insulation cover as well as underneath the cap. I had one crack on the outside but it looked fine from inside.

Well, Jayare, it was pretty well corroded. I cleaned the terminals on the cap and scraped it off the rotor and polished it. It's running much better... it's only a short term fix since I ordered a new cap & rotor from autohausaz. The cap is 89 and the rotor is 43. Anyone know where to find them cheaper than that?

only eBay I would guess, but you MUST make sure they are Bosch parts and not some knock off china brand. Our cars have enough finicky issues without putting Chinese junk in there...
