Still it's a matter of taste !
Hi.
Uncracked center consoles are now in short supply. And I'm not even talking about this SL-style-kit.

The original supplier for the standard spec wood folded. I was told MB is not going to source these parts from other suppliers.
There was just one remaining center console available with cut-outs for pwr windows, mirrors, Panic switch, heated seats AND auxillary heater.
That one was stamped "Made in Romania" and was hefty at EUR 220,-.

But where is the AMG stamp as they didn't produce these kits themselves? Is your console somewhat different from that one shown. Have more pictures if needed.

Feedback much appreciated before I'm going to throw money out of the window.

That's ok. As lot as it keeps going...
Received a wealth of useful information anyway. Thank you all !

Ok, there is an AMG script on yours, but that doesn't mean that the one that was offered to me is not original. Basically it's the same part, although yours seems to be a one-piece unit.

AMG Japan labeled ashtrays in a way shown above.

Let move a little bit further away from the topic

As we're now having this thread going...

May I ask for comments on the AMG speedometer dials I had re-fabricated recently ?

Please note the preparation for a oil temperature gauge !
Yes I know - it's a shame they read in km/h rather than miles.

It is a very nice part...problem though with USA delivery cars is they use different control gear as all had climate control as standard.

The wood veneer typically doesn't ctack.
The crack is in the two part clear coat that Mercedes began using with the 201, 124, 126 vehicles.
Difficult to sand smooth or chemically remove.
Professional refinishers actual heat the piece and the clear coat softens and can be gently scraped off...

I might try to locate a USA spec early R129 300Sl/500SL wood console piece and see how hard it is to fit to the 124.

Still trying to find the old forum link !!!

Hi

Thanks for the hint, but I'll probably got for the original one.

AMG-Wood for climate control ? No problem:

Regarding the speedos: Early AMG's had white dials. This is how all Euro E60 (300km/h) and E36 (280km/h) should look like. I had original speedos taken as a pattern.

I like the gauge faces on the far right with the oil temp range. I've converted a petrol Economy gauge to detect boost pressure for my turbo diesel. I'd love to have a gauge face that read in Bar or psi to reflect my manifold pressure.
