Problem with ASD on W124

I own 230 CE, produced in 1990 that has airconditioning and ABS

I've been having troubles with my ASD for a quite some time.

Every 10'th time I turn on AND start driving, the warning lights on and stays on until I take out the relay. When I return it, an hour later, everything reads normal, and stay that way for the next 9 starts. On 10'th the light goes on again.

When it is connected to the diagnostics computer, at first it used to report different problem each time, and lately, the ASD light either goes off as soon the car is connected to the diagnostics or it turns off when the checking starts. Diag shows everything is OK, and it stays that way for next 9 starts.

I changed the sensor on the rear differential, ASD relay and RED relay with two breakers. Front sensors both read perfect.

If it helps Mercedes designates the relay with the number 008 545 24 32.

ANY help is more than welcome

Have you changed the "brake switch", located at the brake pedal?

I changed the switch, no change, then I changed "RED relay with two breakers" and my ASD was ok. At the ASD unit, under the car, right side, there is a solenoide that is monitored by the system. If you have 8 blinks at the ASD lamp, it could be that one.....

If you get 8 blink during diagnostic it means "8: ASD valve(Y38) or Stop Lamp Switch (S9/1)"" . The "valve(Y38)" are placed under your car, and can be changed. Here is a drawing (The valve is located on the right side of 111, in the drawing)

I struggeld a lot with this fault, I changed th OVP device two times
When I changed the OVP device the third time...it worked...go figure...
The OVP Device

A typical fault:

That is not important, the ASD system is the same.

To start the diagnostic.
Start your engine.
Connect pin 1 -->5 for 1 sec.
Count the number of blink's.(on the ASD lamp)

1: No fault in system
2: ASD control module (N30/2)
3: Stop Lamp Switch (S9/1)
4: Left Front Axial Vehicle speed sensor (L6/1)
5: Right Front Axial Vehicle speed sensor (L6/2)
6: Rear Axial speed sensor (L6)
7: No speed signal from Any sensor (L6,L6/1,L6/2), missing ground
8: ASD valve(Y38) or Stop Lamp Switch (S9/1)"

Fix your ASD sytem accordingly (Iam a funny man )

Connect 1 ---> 5 more then 15sec. to reset fault code.
If you changed the OVP device, the system are reseted by default.

Do you have a pic of your "diagostic socket "?
Have you seen this?

Hi everyone
I have also a problem with my w124 300E ASD.
Here is the full scenario:
I replaced every gear and shaft in the housing of my differential with new ones about 10 moths ago, because they were worn and the diff was knocking while shifting gears fairly fast. After that fix 2 or 4 of the ASD clutches were not placed in the housing, maybe it was impossible to place all of them (not enough room) or etc... . However everything was working fine, ASD performs well. The long ASD-Hydraulic hose which comes from the pump and beats every 2 seconds was also worn and started leaking oil, So I had to replace it, first I had no idea there are lots of small plastic pieces inside the hose which reduce and control the pressure of the oil probably, after replacing the hose with the ordinary one, it began to beat harder i mean you clearly could hear it inside the car. I couldn't find the original hose neither on shops nor on the ebay, so the best choice for me was pushing the pieces through the new hose! I managed to place half of the pieces (not an easy job), as the result the hose kept on knocking much smoother but could hear it yet, not annoying though!
Well everything was normal till 3 months ago that I realized differential is noisy and knocking while turning and when engine is cold, when the system warms up it's much better. Well this case became worse as it is knocking more now, I'm 100% sure it is the noise of ASD clutches, everything is pretty quiet while driving without sharp turning or when the oil is warm enough. I recognized when the hose beats harder, the diff becomes quiet.
ASD still performs well, tried over mud and the indicator lamp turned on and wheels were locked.
But now I have no idea what's the problem, is it something wrong with the hydraulic oil pressure or ASD valve beneath the car or worn clutches, or missing clutches.
