300e cold start question

my 300e has always had problems starting when cold and finally i checked to see whats wrong with it the first thing i did was test to see if the cold valve injector is getting any power to it and sure it enough it isn't.I tested another 300e and its getting 11 amps when u turn the key on with out starting so i figure its one of my relays which one could it be OVP? fuel pump relay? what u guys think

The cold start circuit begins with the engine temp sensor.

so if this sensor is dead cold calve wont work or get any power to it? and where can i find this temp sensor?

The engine temp sensor is the last one on the head, nearest the firewall. Inexpensive.

isn't engine temp just to show u the temp of the engine? or does it do something more the car feels like its lacking fuel when its cold i can put my foot down all the way and it will not pull just rev up slowly and not even smoothly.Im gonna take it in tomorrow to see what they can find out bc its getting worse now it has to warm up up to 80 to have its full power anything under will not pull.

You hit the nail on the head. The engine temperature sensor has much more to do with the fuel management system than you realize. It's purpose is to provide information to the ECU for fuel mixture adjustments.

its 1988 300e with 135k I took it in today at my local benz mechanic and he has ordered ovp relay. He will put it in and try it tomorrow when it cold and he will adjust my fuel mixture.He he did mention the temperature sensor it might be faulty but will see if the relay does anything il let u guys know how it goes 100$ for the relay :0

He could have checked the OVP to see if he had voltage on pin 87V which feeds the cold start valve.
The Coolant temp sensor does not connect directly to the OVP, but to the EZL and KE control units.

My 1993 300E , with CEL 8 and 28 also in the winter somtimes I had to crank the engine 2 or 3 times to get it start, after I read RBYCC post, I decided to do this : http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w124...ml#post3316771.
The CEL 8 and 28 were gone, and no more cool start problem.
I would like to say thanks to RBYCC post, without member like him I think I can not fix those prolems.(because I am a Saturday,Sunday mechanic :-))) )
