Does anyone know the dimensions for the idler pulley bearings on the tensioner pulley and idler pulley (off the fan bearing bracket just above the air pump)?
I am re-doing the viscous fan clutch and the air pump idle pulley and I want to press in new bearings for the other idler pulleys. Since I can probably get them cheap at Ball Bearing, Roller Bearing at Bearings OnLine all I need are the specs.
they are tres expensive in Canada. $98/ pulley at the stealership... and I don't like paying for shipping. Also, less landfill... maybe a little "green principle" in there.
I know this is an old thread, but I have found information that may help others in future searches.
I also had the idea of just pressing in new bearings but that is not possible.
On the fan bearing bracket (that holds the clutch fan) you cannot replace just the bearing - you have to buy the whole bracket, with the fan bearing in place. This is because the bearing does not have an inner race - the shaft in the middle is not pressed into the inner race, it IS the inner race and has a profile to it for the double row of ball bearings to ride in. When that bearing goes - you need a new bracket.
For the idler pulley that is attached to the bracket, again - you cannot replace just the bearing, you need the whole pulley/bearing assembly because the phenolic resin (plastic) pulley appears to be cast in place onto the bearing. I tried pressing my old bearing out and it exploded. Upon looking at the pieces it was clear that there is a knurled surface that will not allow the bearing to be pressed out of the pulley.
Hi ....nice to see post from other Canucks and thanks for saving someone else a waste of time.
