Is this the norm for this vehicle? We're hunting the MB wagon and I came across this ad on Craigslist today...
I am offering for sale, a 1992 Mercedes 300 TE in well above average condition (possibly excellent). This wagon has just 92K on its odometer. It is black with saddle MB Tex interior. All components work. 3rd rear facing seat makes this a 7 passenger wagon. The car drives very well, with plenty of pick-up from the in-line 6 cylinder, gas aspirated engine. No accidents, just lots of pleasure, dependable motoring and comfort, to boot! Well maintained and serviced on schedule.
I am asking above the KBB retail for this car as its condition is truly exceptional and will offer the fortunate new owner outstanding value and years of reliable ownership. Email for digital photos.
Not offered in time to be placed under the tree, but in time to ring in the new year!
I dont know ANY vehicle that is selling OVER KBB in this market, most are selling at WELL below KBB. Its a great time to buy, look at the car, if you like it make an offer.

Ditto. Get the photos and have a look. Run a carfax. It's easy enough to swap out the odo with one from a junked car with low mileage. If it looks good get it inspected. I can see why someone would want over KBB if its a truly exceptional specimen.

A car is worth what someone will pay for it. Low mileage, exceptionally clean TEs are not easy to find. Do your homework and if the car is what the seller claims it to be (and you like it) buy it.
I have both the 300TE and the e320 wagons. I'd have to tip my hat to the e320. It's faster, more fuel efficient, the rims are easier to keep clean, comes stock with Euro lights. The stock stereo is also nicer. And if you get one with the winter package (wipers on headlights are a sign that it has it), you get heated seats, and traction control. I throw winter tires on it this time of year and it's unstoppable on the snowy streets. If you do go for the e320 (94-95), just be sure that the wire harness has been replaced (you will see obvious fraying if it hasn't been replaced), as well as the head gasket. If not, then negotiate accordingly b/c these are both big ticket items. Otherwise pretty amazing car!
Best of luck!
Michael

Thanks, Michael. We've been leaning toward the E320, but when another comes up, I take the time to check it out.
The seller sent some photos, but I'd have to see the car in person to really have an opinion. I think, though, that $5500 is not really what we were looking to spend on a '92...it's the highest we've seen.
Michaelscoots:
Can you compare the heating, air conditioning and charging systems for the two Estates you have?
Hi,
I don't know if I'm really qualified, but I can tell you about my experience. My wife's 300TE has always had a weak blower so heat and A/C aren't great. But again, I think this is due to the blower not being up to snuff. My e320's system has worked great and I actually like the auto heat/cool system -- works great. I've driven roughly 20K on each car.
As far as the charging systems go: I haven't had any issues on either car so I don't really know if there is a major difference. The alternator went on the 300TE after going through a big puddle a few years back. But it was probably due to go.
Thanks for that input, your general suggestion to go w a 95 has merit for a variety of reasons.
Thanks - I still get a big smile every time I drive my e320
The 300TE is a 4matic -- too expensive to fix that flawed system. But on the bright side (being a 4matic)it has a really beefed up suspension (the springs are huge) and the ride is just amazing given the year. Every time I drive the 300TE I'm reminded of the fact that I'll probably need new shocks in my e320 within the next year.
