Fuel accumulator is typically the hard start culprit. A set of fuel pressure gauges will clue you in. Your mechanic should be so equipped.

Have you check the fuel pump relay?? I used to have the same problem, after i replace the fuel pump, accumulator & filter it still hard to start after warm condition, then i open the fuel relay(behind the battery console in engine bay) it get so hot(, i open it and spray the contact terminal with wd 40) it starts just fine that day ,but after 2-3 days , it began to stop starting even when it`s cold, so i open the relay plastic case and start to re-soldering the parts that seem to loose contact.........guess what, my engine starts normally till now(+/- 3 months now) I saved about Rp 700k(its approx 80$us parts in indonesia) for a simple DIY!

My 89 Mercedes Benz 300E is having a hrad starting problem as well. I have replaced OVP relay, Fuel Accumulator/Filter and check valves on each side, throttle body has been cleaned, and I recently got a full fuel injection cleaning. As far as hard staring, what else doI have left to do? Whether it's cold or hot outside, my car starts hard and gurgles for a few seconds until it can get it together, after it's minor seizuring it runs fine (so to speak) And what I mean by that is that there is a obvious miss, but it also has a stuck lifter so thats excusable. What do I do about this? Please help.

Also I wanted to ask what does the fuel pump relay look like and how do I disconnect it to check it out? Is it something that requires tools, and what should I be looking for if it is in fact bad. How much did it cost to Sauder it?
