If anyone can tell me the code that would be awesome!!!
Thanks
Call the parts department of your local MB dealer.
Ask them if they can obtain the code for you.
Typically they will ask for the VIN along with a proof of ownership.
Thanks for the advice, but the dealer wants to charge me. I was hoping that some cool person would just help me out and give the code for free.
Some dealers don't want to provide the code by telephone because it defeats the purpose of the code as an "unti-theft" feature. Bring you proof of ownership to the dealer and request for your code from one of the service advisor or the parts person at the parts counter. They can access your VMI through their terminal and they don't usually charge for this inquiry. If your dealer want to charge you for this find another dealer that don't.
Also, please note that each wrong code you put will extend the time when the system ask for the code again. I think (IIRC) the first 3 wrong code will result in 15 minutes wait time, the next 3= 24 hours then 72hours and so on.
Does a radio from a 1988 300E require a code? When I disconnect the battery, radio will work after reconnection. Will it work if radio removed and reinstalled in another car? I'm parting this car out and don't want to sell an inoperative unit unless I can provide a code.

The 1988 uses the early electronic Becker Grand Prix.
You can disconnect the power and power it up without having to enter any code.
It does have an anti theft feature.
If an effort is made to remove the radio from the car when the alarm system is armed, the alarm will be activated and the radio will be rendered inoperative.
A series of dashed lines will then appear on the radio display, and the radio is junk !!!
