A/C question on my 87 300TDT. I have searched quite a bit
So after much searching I found tons of posts about the climate control units. But I can't narrow down my problem.
Here's the deal: The A/C seems to work perfectly fine it just isn't blowing very cold air, even on the min. setting with the air set to recirculate. The temp of the air is certainly not the same as he outside temp (high 80's here in DC) but it isn't as cold as I think it should be.
Any ideas on what I should check out first?
Thanks

Unless your car has been converted to R134A, you need to go to an independant A/C shop and have the system checked out. R12 is still avaiable, but goes for about $60 per pound. You will be much better off taking the time and expense to have the original system service and checked out. Converting an R12 system properly, will cost you as much or more and won't cool nearly as well as the system was designed for R12.

Good Luck,

That's the plan. I found a well regarded indy Benz shop that specializes in W124s. Do you think it could just need a charge or some freon?
Yes, it could just be low on refrigerant. Look at the sight glass on the receiver-drier (which is located behind the left headlamp). When the engine is idling and the a/c compressor is operating the sight glass should be clear. Any bubbles going by the sight glass and a continuous flow of liquid refrigerant is not reaching the expansion valve. IOW the system is low on refrigerant.
