W124 estate hydraulic suspension system contaminated with engine oil
Hello,
Anyone out there who has an idea on how to flash the suspension hydraulic system of engine oil ? Somehow, engine oil from the oil seal of the crankshaft (which drives the hydraulic oil pump) managed to get thru the oil seal and got sucked into the pump. True enough, after getting into the pump, the engine oil got into the hydraulic line and into the system. Right now, the hydraulic oil reservoir is filled with the engine oil mixed with the hydraulic suspension oil.
Surely, the shocks and the air cells are contaminated with engine oil but I do think that there is still a way of getting away with having to change both components. I don't think they're damaged yet at this point. All I need is to have an excellent flashing process. Any suggestions ??
I stand corrected.... the hydraulic pump is driven by the camshaft, not crankshaft. And I believe a 300TE is a lot different from the 230TE in terms of pump driver.
Thankfully our USA 300TE’s can’t have the problem you do.
Are you asking what to use to flush, or how to actually flush the SLS?
First fix the leak, right? Then I would put fresh Hydraulic fluid in the reservoir, put a hose on the return line so that the returning fluid doesn’t go back into the reservoir, open the bleed screw on the SLS valve by the rear axle, and bleed a liter through the lines.
Next, put three friends or 120kg way in the back, make sure there is plenty of hydraulic fluid handy, have another friend sit behind the wheel and hold the engine at 2500 rpm, and flush a few liters of fluid through (topping up the reservoir while collecting the returning fluid in some other container through a hose.
That should get most of the oil out. Do it again in another few weeks, and change the fluid in the reservoir as needed until it stays clean.
