Project w124 1988 All advise and ideas welcome and appreciated
So I am now a proud owner of an 88 260e with power seats. 63k orignal miles, owned by my neighbour. Bought it at the spur of a moment. Blue/green metalic with the tex while interior. Drives like a dream, only thing that i needed fixed was the AC as they never used it in 20 years and that is done.
So here is the plan. My very good friend owns a Body and a repair shop for Mercs in Huntington Beach has like three dozen in being repaired and painted so he will do the work. I will be putting 500 miles a month on this car. I already Love it.
i) 92 lower body muldings and body colored bumpers. Already bought
ii) Euro Headlights and clear turn lights - ordered
iii) 17inch wheels - looking at options but have seen a few I like
iv) redo shocks - brakes so I dont have to bother with for the next few years
v) Paint Dark Blue Metallic or Black - scheduled a month out
vi) Don't want to change orignal - but need to add cd player or Ipod. All ideas appreciated. Max budget 400. one option was to add new amp - all new speakers - 12 cd changer (wireless) 375 cost
Any thing else I should do to the motor for proactive maintenance ?
I dont like the night illumination of the gauges - what are my options ?
I am thinking once I have spent this money I can easily drive this car 3-4 years and enjoy it. Other option was to sell it to someone who would appreciate it in its orignality and just but a blue or black 93 - 94. I mean this thing has the first aid kit, all orignal books, even the window stickers are still on it) I mean this thing is flawless....except a slight but of paint fade on the sunroof which is weird....looks and drives like it has come out of a time capsule...that mats are still spotless and interior still smells of new....
Please advise ..........talked to my wife and she said "whatever" as she knows I spent one year upgrading my 00 boxster...seats, gauges, lights and now my son uses it on the weekends..
You found a gem and now you want to rework it!
Sell the car to someone who will appreciate what it already is and find something closer to what you really want.
By the time you're done doing what you want to do you'll have spent so much money that you won't get back *half* of it when you try to sell the car in 3-4 years.

Thank you all..I am in socal The OC
Since you already updated the side moldings why not go all the way to change the hood, trunklid and rear bumpers and make it look like a '94 E320?
