Hi Everyone. There is a 1995 300D for sale close by my house at a local dealership. I went by and looked at it, and the car seems to be in good shape. The mileage is 230k (little high, but I hear that's ok for an MB diesel). They are offering $7800, which I feel is WAY inflated. KBB and Edmunds both say around $4500 to $5000. What do you think I should offer the guy?
Check ebay, cars.com, and autotrader.com for an idea of the range in prices.
Like that guy said, blue book is blue book, unless you really want the car. They only made it one year.
I sold a flawless 95 E300 with 158K miles in Jan 08 for $9K, just to buy a 95 E300 SE with some issues and 92K miles for $9.5K. It's a seller's market unless you can find a no reserve car on fleabay and win.
I'd offer $6K for that high mileage car, if there are records. Has the A/C evaporator been replaced (it WILL leak)? Wiring harness replaced? Cruise control work? ACC work both hot and cold? Bushings ok? Shocks? Struts? Cat converter in exhaust? Fuel leaks? Window regulators? Sunroof? Headgasket? Water pump and thermostat? All of that better have been done, or you will have to on a >200K miles car.

Skip it. 230k miles is nothing for the engine, but the rest of the car is going to show serious wear and have many issues. $7800 is WAY too much. With Diesel at $5+/gal this car makes little to no sense and is VASTLY overpriced.
