Just keep driving along the strip, I stumbled upon my 300CE this February while looking for a W124 chassis. Thinking it was a 300E, I checked it out and low and behold it was a near perfect 300CE with 100k and maintenance records.
Unbelievable!! I followed the instructions and searched the northeast and found a 1989 300CE that went up on Craig's List today--FROM MY OWN TOWN!!! I sent a copy of the ad to my own email address and printed it out.
Thanks muchly for the tip, Maidaa. I used to know an URL that did the same thing, but lost it. Btw, you can help support crazedlist.org by buying a T-shirt with their name and logo (not bad looking). I was so grateful for the service I bought one. Hey Maidaa, want a T-shirt?--it's on me!

Wow, quite a coincidence! Play the lotto today!
Best deal I've received on a car came from C-list;
someone relatively unfamiliar with the car selling for a family member.
Post Pics when you can...
and a Tshirt is quite a bargain for that tip! Congrats!!
dont just look at one and think mmm that will do, because you will 9 times out of 10 buy a not so nice one way trip to bankruptcy!!
also look at the whole range of the w124 and think what you will be using the car for, a coupe is a pain if you have a family so do what i did and get the saloon, if you have a dog in the family then the sensible thing is the estate, you get the idea anyway
thats my 2 pence anyway
cheers

Oh yeah, I will definitely take my time on this. It'll be a long learning curve for me and that's fine, I can savor the experience. It's not like the fever I had to get the E30. Anyhow, this Sunday I will be driving the '89 CE I found on C-List in my town. Will report back. I know that car will not be mine because I am set on two-tone black/grey exterior, or red (that car is champagne I think). I'll have to compare the 12-valve with the 24-valve, but if I know me I won't be happy with the 12. That means an '89 is out, but let the learning curve begin!

Black is much easier to find then red ( Signal Red )
When I purchased my 88 300CE new in May of 88, I discovered that there were only 200 Signal Red coupes brought to the USA market.
From one who has owned the vehicle for twenty years, don't negate the M103-12V.
It's a motor that is simplistic, has great torque and doesn't give up much in performance to the M104-24V.
OK, great information--thanks! I won't discount the 12V, but I will do the comparo. If it's not that much of a difference and it will save me a few grand, why not? I've heard that there are less problems with the less complicated 12V.
