New head gasket still leaks oil.

My car was leaking engine oil like crazy (about 1/2 qtr a week). It was an external leak near the back of the engine. I took my car to a local indy to replace the head gasket last week. Cost me $1400 (ouch!) However, I still see a couple drops of oil on my drive way with the new head gasket. For those of you who replaced the head gasket, do you still having minor oil leak?

Are you Certain it's still coming from the head gasket and not from say, the rear main?

Find the source of the oil

I suppose it could be all kinds of things, including a bad head gasket or front timing cover repair. I’ve read that replacing the front timing cover gasket can be a bit challenging and requires using a specific sealer. If the shop is not experienced, or even if they are, that could be a problem. I have also read that conditioning the head may be essential to get a good seal.

Was the head skimmed? I've had two M103 engines done; my mechanic would have walked away had he not been allowed to get the heads skimmed, as he says he's never dealt with one that didn't need it. Neither of the M103 engines is leaking now.

I am afraid that might be the case. My indy probably didn't skim the head. I have to take the car back. I hope he won't charge me another $1400.
