Messed up Hydraulic Valve Lifters??

Hi Guys,
Help please. My 200E has done a high mileage. The valve lifters were noisy some 50 000 miles ago, but two engine flushes solved the problem, Recently it returned but worse than the first time, so I flushed the engine again. NOW ITS TEN TIMES WORSE and the "ticking" is really bad and does not go away. When one starts the car its not too bad but gets bad after a minute or two. While I was flushing the engine they were quiet - why?
Does this mean that they are messed and need replacement?
If so, is it a big job and does it need a mechanic to do it or can I do it myself?
Your expert advice will be appreciated - thanks

Sometimes those engine flushes does a too good of a job. cleaning every nook and crany
I had a quiet engine before and a noisy one afterwards. Mehanics have told me its the rocker arm for me, I'm living with the noise. Wish I could offer more, Good Luck
