Hi Everybody
I would like to hear some opinions about my situation. Recently I bought E420 for $4100 110K no rust in great shape at least that what I thought on the beggining. Mechanic fixed damaged oil sending unit for $230 so lets say I end up in $4500. So far I noticed and discover fewer issues
Whining (somethimes) alternaor bearing = replace alternator (reman from Bosch +/- $220)
Damaged air pump ($250 rebuild one)
Bad starter bearing ($150 I guess starter repalacement)
last but not least (brake light issue 3 bulbs lit on and die when hit the brake - I guess harness on my year $???)
PLUS all above + labor
I found good mechanic he told me drive the car for a while (runs great) will see whats up. I can drive the car without any problems I love the car but thats a lot t do on this baby. What do you think should I sell the car? or rather slowly fix it. I wasready to invest $1000 but if harness is bad I wll be long short on $1000. I love this car even with 16mpg but I am really confused what to do. I guess mechanic can fix air pump, alternator and starter at the same time to lower labor time and cost but I am affraid about harness. If not the brake light everything else like blinking interior lights and no exterior temp sometimes, wont bother me at all. I like to have all my staff in order and hate to have even minor issues. Please let me know what your opinion is
Oil sender -$230, if the part was not original from the dealer is too much. If you ar e dooing a oil change it is 10 min. job. and if you really like to keep this car in perfect shape it depends in what condition is the car but most likely you will end up with much more then $1000 in repair. If you do not mind fixing it the car will probably satisfy you. But if you are not a Mercedes guy better sell it and lease a new Honda. Good luck.
All used cars need repairs. I've had 5 in the last year and every one needed $1000 worth of work. If the engine and transmission are good and you plan to keep it for a while then the repairs will be worth it.
I'm fixing up a 260e currently in order to sell it. I would never keep the car personally because parts are so expensive and hard to find. It's a comfortable car to drive though. I leased a new car myself so I don't have to rely on an old car that breaks down all the time.
The starter and other things are normal wear and tear can be weary about that.
The lights I am confused about your statement. They are on when not pressing the brake? then turn off when you do? Explain this a little more. It sounds like the combo light relay under the screwed down box behind the fuses. I replaced that from a few junkyard ones I found then I got a bulb out indication, found that previous owner had jerry rigged a marker light when the relay failed just to get it to work. I fixed that, 2 years now no issues.
About my stop light whan car lights are on during night 3 bulbs are on:left back running light + break + side trim when I hit break all left side die. It looks like short circuit but hopefully I am wrong when I remove side trim bulb everything is dead.
Thanks in advance
