The shut of valve is located on the lower side of the oil filter casing and very easy to change and thats the first stop. If that does not fix it then move to the timing chain tensioner and oil pump issues, do a search on these two as many cars used the 104 engine, even S Class

If you have been using the wrong oil grade for a long time, then changing to the correct oil grade will not repair the damage. But it may give you better overall oil pressure.

Sure, it would be available separately. The EPC would have all the information you need and, assuming you are in the U.S., is free.

How about checking the tensioner? It should be a rather easy and straightforward job. Check to see if it's reached the end of its travel, or if there is anything otherwise wrong with it.

The tensioner is designed to ratchet in one direction only to take up the majority of the slack (i.e., to "rough-in" the tension). This helps keep some tension during startup. After the slack take-up is roughed in, the tensioner further uses the engine's oil pressure to take up the remaining slack after the engine is started. I suspect the tensioner's ratcheting system may be stuck or reached the end of its travel, and the oil pressure is doing all the work. Just a theory.

Thanks for the VIN and here is your shopping list;

A601 184 01 32 Valve
A102 993 07 01 Spring
A102 184 00 31 Retainer
N000 472 024 000 Lock ring

If you decide to remove the oil filter case to do this job then you will need;

A601 134 05 80 Gasket

After you have changed the valve change your oil and filter. Use mobil 1 synthetic as its much better for your engine.

I've seen some very smart people say to stay away from synthetic oil when you have a tensioner oil leak down problem, specifically in regard to the early 119 motor problem. I suppose it doesn't hurt much to experiment.

Smart people? I am an MB Tech with over 40 years experience and you say EXPERIMENT? We are not discussing the 119 engine. We are talking about the in line 6, 104 engine. These so called (smart people) know about all the modifications for the 104 engine? These so called (smart people) know about the leak down problem?

I dont give advice for fun, these are expensive cars mate If any of my apprentices used the word experiment I would fire him on the spot. That is how seriously I take my job.
