I ordered an antenna mast, it's made in California (I forget the manufacturer). It seemed to install easy enough. Made sure the radio was on, fed the plastic "wire" into the hole, turned the radio off and it sucked it right in. However, when it gets to the bottom it wants to keep going for a few seconds. It also wants to keep extending when it gets to the top when you turn the radio on and it clicks (grinds) when it gets to that point for a few seconds. Any ideas?
Maybe it's too short? Or maybe the internal teeth are too worn so it clicks when it reaches the end?

Mine is doing the same thing. When I took the whole unit apart it seems the teeth on the new mast are not tall enough to engage the gear fully. So the inner gear is "slipping" or "grinding" past it. Since not enough resistance the motor keeps pushing or pulling. I guess I am gonna have to bite the bullet and buy the real hirschmann mast.
