A friend wants to go look at a 300TD 4 Matic Wagon, 1989. As I am only a humble newbie 300GD owner, I know very little about these cars. (okay, make that nothing) Do you guys have any points that we should be looking for?
How reliable is the 4matic system in the older cars?
I haven't seen the car yet, but the ad says it has about 190,000 KM.
I've used the wagen sparingly now for 3 winters without problem, but posters here have made me aware that the system is poorly designed and expensive to fix.
Mine was replaced at 85k by a dealer, months before I bought it- I think that repair is over $3K.
I'd have avoided buying a 4 matic if I had read these boards before buying, but hope to get 75k miles out of this one. This car is disposable if the 4matic goes.
