Can anyone help demystify this subject? I need caps and rotors for my beast, and:
a) I don't know if my engine requires an 'adapter bracket' for the distributor rotor
b) I don't know where to get the bracket - well, I'm sure the default answer is 'the dealer'.
Any help out there? Yes, I searched this and all forums using variations of 'bracket' 'distributor' and 'rotor'...
Contact AutoPartsPlace.com, Autohausaz.com or MercedesShop.com. Give them your VIN number and they'll let you know if you need the adapter bracket. The dealer is also a good place to visit from time to time. At least the ones in my area are good. I picked up new OEM floor mats for my coupe today and paid less from the dealer than any other site/place I checked into.
You clearly have the new bracket already. It's based on engine number but for the 119.975 engines only the first 40 engines got the old bracket, according to EPC, so anything from 1995 is going to have a much higher engine number than 000040 - in the last 6 digits of the engine number. If don't know your engine number you can get it by putting in your VIN here: Mercedes-Benz Club Russia | Mercedes-Benz / VIN . You can also check the part number on the brackets - new part number is 119 158 06 40.
I was ready to order from Autohausaz, but couldn't figure out where the break would occur - almost posted my VIN, but held back. Yeah, I ran it through the russian site a while back - love how option numbers get reused, thus I could have some strange options :-)
Anyway, now I feel better about ordering the caps n rotors - thanks again.
You can always drop me a line, the Autohaus/online vendors are typically stocked with order schmucks sitting in front of a world pac catalog w/ no knowledge and/or experience with things Mercedes :-P
