260e oil pressure

Is it in any way normal for the engine to have 0 oil pressure (on the gauge) when at idle? It goes up to 2 or 3 when the car is driving. It hits 3 when accelerating. It seems bad somehow. The oil is up and seems alright.

Possibly the oil pressure sender. If the oil is full and the filter has been changed recently, I'd start with the sender.

Is there a red light that comes on if it's critical? Is that run by the same sensor?

There isn't an idiot light for oil pressure. The only thing that does light up is for oil "level". The sending unit is less than $60 bucks and as simple as can be to change. It's located on the oil filter base, back side. Look behind the filter, near the firewall. There is a single wire lead attached. It might take all of 30 minutes to change this with an open ended wrench. Change it out.

Good Luck,

Jayare

When I start the car cold the pressure sits at 3. It was only after driving did it drop to 0 at idle. Could it be something more sinister? I would think if the sensor was bad it would not register any pressure. Thanks for all the info guys.

It's the sensor. Nothing sinister going on at the pump.

Good Luck,

Jayare
