Cutting Springs, How Much to Cut for 20mm drop???????
Hi Ive recently installed the Eibach prokit Springs. Lowering the car 40mm front and 30mm rear, the front has no.1 spring pads and the rear no. 2 spring pads. I want to drop the rear another 20mm, iam going to put no. 1 pad in the back but how much should i cut of the coil to obtain a 20mm drop.
I would suggest a few things before taking a drastic step like that.
1) Assuming by "recent" you mean you had the springs installed within the last month or so, drive the car around for a few more months to see how much the springs settle. Mine settled noticeably. You may find that the front of the car ends up being too low.
2) If you're lucky and your springs do settle, you may only need to put the #1 pad in the back and add a slightly thicker pad in the front to level it out.
If you cut your springs, your ride will be aweful. Try everything within your power to avoid doing that.
NEVER NEVER NEVER CUT SPINGS dude/dudette they will fail mot,you will risk your life and those around you .there is 80mm srings around a will try and find them for you but a got them over 8 year ago .do what a did and fill you boot with subs, amps and mdf after a did that the car sits 40mm above the ground and thats before a get in its great but a will say that you should get koni ajustables to stiffin the ride up and also stay well clear of pot holes, kerbs speed bumps but worest of all is road debris keep a sharp eye for stones to bottles ect they will cost you big time but one good thing is youll be lower than a dust mights nuts
You need to raise the front, not drop the rear. Change the front to number 3 or 4 pads and it should even out. If you lower it more you will have tyre wear problems due to excess camber.
What is it exactly about cutting the springs that causes the danger?

The springs are created with the right resistance from the factory at the size that they are made. For example, a spring that is half the height of stock can be created, through thicker and stronger materials, to ride smiliarly and have a similar resistance rate to a full size spring. When you start cutting springs, you need to accomodate the thickness of the spring so they will not bottom out. You will lose handling altogether, and you will bottom out at every bump in the road.
