You can't go by badges. My w124 AMG is real, and all I have is the AMG badge - no MB badge at all. I do have, however, the original 3.2 badge but it's in the glovebox.

There is a longer and in some ways more interesting discussion of this car in the W126 forum. Since it dates back to the time that AMG wasn't in-house it sidesteps some of the questions I see in the 210 forum, along the lines of "how do I make my car an AMG?" Usually it's stuff like "I put on a body kit, this interior item, this taillight" etc. and the poster wants to know how much they have to do in order to call it an AMG.

Back in those days it seems that would have been a more difficult question. Nowadays, my thought process is that you can't make it an AMG and if you buy all the parts to do so you could have instead just sold yours and bought the AMG.

Since the 124 is to some extent more of a purists' car (at least certainly more than the 210!), I'm curious what the rest of you think about the idea of a modern home-grown AMG?

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

I started that post in the w126 forum as well because there's more AMG guys there. What I've found is that those who create their own AMG over the years claim it's a real AMG because it has AMG parts, and those who buy AMGs built by AMG on the car's birthday claim it's a real AMG. I'm of the second camp - it came from AMG this way, therefore it's a real AMG.

Not the point...when you are asking that much for a vehicle it should be fully documented and exactly as it was when the car left AMG.

Unlike your car which is fantastic, the coupe if real is a very special build, and criminal to modify in any way.

Below are pix of a real 6.0L Hammer Coupe Engine compartment

FYI, I can't help but think this is probably the dumbest post I've read in a long while. Now, you might want to know what impression folks get of you from reading such a post, and that impression is "intellectually challenged." You may seek to give this impression, and if so, you're fine, but if not, then....

I was just somewhat bemused by the grammar.

Presumably, this statment was meant in the present or past tense. Surely it should be 'coming' or 'came'? And where did you 'cummed' from, anyway?

if this is what you get from young, rich and brilliant - (his personal description in previous posts) - I'm suddenly very happy to be old, broke and challenged.
