technical help

Hi all. New to Benz and to this forum. I'm sure these questions have been covered in detail before, but I would appreciate any guidance.

300E, 6 cyl. auto, showing 160k. Rough idle, dies at idle periodically, smooth as silk at highway speeds. Lifters seem noisy. Power level seems somewhat low. I've done the standard i.e. checked for vacuum leaks, changed oil, new wires & plugs, etc. Compression good.

Also, the odometer & tachometer do not work, and the (I think) oil level light stays on.

Any help appreciated.

Steve

It could be the ignition coil. I had a bad one and it was fairly hard starting, both cold and warm, had a slight miss at idle, periodically stalled at lower speeds, ran great on highway. Replaced coil and it started right up and now runs great.

Dirty throttle body bore? It's an easy, no-cost procedure to clean it.
