300e not performing so well

Ok i have a 93 300e 4MATIC. my roomate has an 88 300e. essentially the same motor. I was just wondering should his 300e perform much better than mine. Because mine is heavier. Or should they accelerate just about the same

i though the 93 had the 104 engine.... if it does..it should be quicker.

We have three 103's. the quickest is the 300e... the 300ce is next.. then the 260 (less horsepower...noticibly slower)

the 93 300e 4 matic is slower because it weighs more and uses the m103, which either produces 177hp or 185hp. the 88 300e has the same engine but weighs less.

I saw a chart somewhere that had the 1988 300E as the lightest ever 124 (U.S. market) - under 3,100 pounds as I recall. It would be considerably faster than a 93 4-matic with the same 177 hp engine.

Keep in mind that the 4 wheel drive system adds weight, but it's also costing you more power to drive the system. It's simple really, you have more frictional losses and more parasitic losses therefore your friends car should be faster than yours even if you make 8 more HP than he does.

Were the 4Matic cars geared differently (differential ratios)?

Not sure where the 8 hp came from but they are both 177 hp / 188 ft lbs.
