Is the neutral switch damaged?

Hello,

I replaced the neutral switch of my car two weeks ago. Since then, my car still has problems starting up on the neutral position. I have made 3 adjustments so far to the neutral switch. After every adjustment everything works fine, then later the car only starts on the neutral position intermittently. Could be that the new neutral switch I installed is factory damaged, or is it something else? Please help!!!!!!!!

3 adjustments? Are you following the recommended procedure - using a 4 mm diameter rod through the lever and peg into the positioning hole in the casing?

MOre! I have a replacement as well and am only waiting for some lift time to replace. So it's not so easy? I was assuming it was a simple off/on. What adjustments can be done? Maybe my old one just needs that...

Can you explain more the procedure in detail?

This is what I did:

While having 1 person moving the shifter, I went under the car and tighten the neutral switch in the position when the car started in park and neutral.

I haven't done one for a couple of years so I'll just give you the Haynes manual version - install the switch, install but don't tighten the securing screws, then quoting "refit the selector lever, ensuring that the peg on the switch engages with the corresponding hole in the selector lever. Ensure that the selector lever is in position "N" (the positions are marked on the transmission casing), then refit and tighten the lever clamp screw and nut. Insert a 4 mm diameter twist drill or rod through the selector lever and switch peg until it engages with the locating hole in the switch casing. Tighten the switch securing screws, then withdraw the drill or rod." Of course they have pictures which helps.

Thanks deanyel for your information on the subject. I did the procedures you explained and I found out that the new neutral switch I had installed was damaged. I bought another one (little be more expensive), I installed it, and it is working fine. Again, thanks
