300e W124 M103 engine, fuel pressure regulator problem?

G'day all, newb here!

Just got home and smelled petrol fumes...... Removed the electronically controlled fuel pressure regulator (part no 2437 020 007 -made by Bosch) from the rear of the fuel dustributor as it's leaking.

Had hoped it was the two o-rings, but no good! Looks like it's leaking from itself.

Anyone experienced this before? Is it a problem likely caused by something else & I'm looking in the wrong spot? Or do these things fracture or split their housings to create the leak?

Help appreciated!

G'day up2nogood,

I had the same problem with mine over a year ago. Some say the leak can be cured, but just buy a new one. Pricey but worth it. No worries after that. Whereabouts in Australia are you? I get most of the parts for jobs I can safely tackle by post from M.B. Spares and Service in Fyshwick, and they're most helpful. Have a look at their website. Having said that though, I did have trouble getting the car to run after I'd fitted the new EHA. It turned out to be the incorrect polarity of the adaptor lead which has the Mercedes-compatible plug, which was easily remedied by snipping off the locating pin and turning the plug through 180 degrees. M.B. Spares rose to the occasion and did the research, thus uncovering the problem and advising me of the solution within a very short time.

Definitely was the EHA. I tried putting in new o'rings, but the leak still spread across the join between the EHA and the fuel distributor. Turns out the housing had cracked from old age. New EHA also cured an annoying surging issue with the cruise control engaged! Woo hoo!

The poor thing has travelled over 400,000kms with the original auto and having only had an in chassis rebuild (same pistons, no rebore and same mains) 60,000kms ago.

Back to the EHA: We source parts from Silver Star spares in Sydney. Bit more local than Fyshwick.
