Great forums...great community. Happy to be on board with people who care about their MBs!
I have 1995 E300D with 260K miles (just getting broken in!). Recently, every electrical problem you can imagine is happening at the same time. The auto headrests, selected dash and control lights and the radio going in and out started happening almost simultaneously. I have checked the fuses and there is no problem there. Is there a central control unit that powers all of these things? I am a mechanical oaf and am really just looking for answers.
Hi Bill and welcome to the Forum. This place is great. Sounds like you have a classic example of, albeit late in developing, a faulty wiring harness. Search the forum for miles and miles of threads on this subject.

Thanks Scott. Just moved to PA from Kensington, MD and before that, DC. Miss it quite a bit.
Thanks to both of you for the idea on the harness. Is it a tough repair? I went from a '65 Ford Mustang with four moving parts to an over-engineered car. Replacing a wiring harness sounds like quite an endeavor. If I went to a mechanic, what could I expect to pay? Is it buried like an AC compressor and thus cost a ton in labor?
Has the wiring harness been replaced yet? If not, it well past time. It would be rare to make it to 13 years/260k miles on the factory harness.
Not to my knowledge. About half of the miles were put on by my father, who bought the vehicle new. I bought it from him in 2002. The car was garaged and pristine when I obtained it. Dad is a little bit anal, and handed me a CD with excell spreadsheets of every service was obtained and even when fuel was purchased. I do not recall seeing a wiring harness replacement in his records.
I am going to look around the forum for some ideas, but thanks much for the heads-up!
