chassis range?

Anyone know how to tell which chassis range my 300E belongs to? It's a 1990. Is there a door plate or a hood plate with the info stamped on it? Do I need to give the dealership my VIN number so they can look it up? The reason I ask is that some parts places list their parts by chassis and engine range within a certain year. I don't want to buy the wrong part. Thanks for any help.

It's always a good idea to have the dealer run your VMI because it has lots of good information. Your car is a 124.030 and the chassis number often referred to in VIN splits is the last six digits of your VIN. Your engine number is on the VMI and also available on the Russian Club site.

It is listed, just above 300E 4-matic, they just failed to put the engine number in the 1990 column. That comes from a MBUSA website - nothing is perfect but I think it's pretty darn good.
