Collected the 300TE last night and had a late night journey of around 200 miles of most enjoyable motorway driving! It is a real smooth cruiser but a bit on the thirsty side! However, the only obvious problem with the car is that the central locking is completely inoperative! Haven't had the opportunity to lift the hood for a thorough analysis of the overall state of affairs but what would be best way to determine where the fault lies?
(It's a 1992 W124 model)
Oh and the other noticable defect(?) appeared to be a slight 'wind hiss' from the windscreen area at high speed (80mph+), possibly from the top behind the rear view mirror - externally, the windscreen surround appears secure - any ideas?

try checking the fuse, its located in the fuse box to your right when you open the hood, near the brake master cylinder. then maybe check to make sure the vacuum pump which drives the locks is receiving power. it is located beneath the rear passenger side seat, (wagons is it still?) you just push in the red tabs on sedans (again on wagons i dont know) which releases the bottom seat pad. its located in foam but can be tested rather easily.
does anybody know which color wires are bringin the main power?

Most likely a vacuum leak for the inoperative locks. They're difficult to track down. The windshield (if you'll allow me to use the commonly accepted alternative spelling) was likely replaced and you've got a leak where the adhesive was lacking.
