diesel injection pump 1993 300d 2.5 5 cyl Leak

Replace O Rings & copper washers

When I removed the stub pipes and looked down at the copper washer and pressure valve assembly there was so much trash in it them I decided to remove the pressure valve assembly and rinse.

Taking out my small mega power magnet on a stick I removed in one fell swoop, the copper washers, pressure valve nozzle, pressure valve carrier, and because of the strength of my magnet the PART THAT SITS UNDER THE PRESSURE VALVE CARRIER. (2d plunger or piston down I guess it's actually an fuel intake/fuel metering type deal)

Mercedes & Bosch obviously don't want you messing too much with their pumps and I can't even find the name of this part, Looks like a piston or a plunger and has a small round and a larger beveled round hole in side, which i'm assuming are a intake and a pressure relief, or maybe two pressure reliefs. Since it was notched, I figured, apparently incorrectly, that it would only go in one way.

On reassembly, I just turned them until they dropped, figuring, apparently
incorrectly, that a tab had locked in the slot. apparently aligned five
different ways

after fuel started moving, it fired on only one cylinder.

I eventually figured that I had missaligned these plungers

So eventually I tore down, and all of these plungers were stuck and it was a
beast to figure out a way to get them out. ( insert butt of largest drill bit
that will fit in center hole and wiggle)

Looking with a light and magnifying mirror and after observing the allignment of the plunger of the cylinder that did fire, I figured the correct alignment was
notch to the passenger compartment, large beveled hole at about two oclock
aligned with corresponding large hole in pump body.

OK so i cranked got some fire, more fire, then ran with white smoke, and then
took off like a rocket, over revved terribly, black smoke, pegged the tach,
tried to cut it off, turning ignition off did not shut it down,, pumped the
accellerator a couple of time times (no change) got out pushed the stop lever a couple of times, which also did not shut it down, after a couple of more seconds, i grabbed the fuel line and yanked, which did shut it down, although it broke the 90 degree plastic fuel filter

Assuming I did not spin a rod or main, and the head didn't crack, (that was some hot exhaust)

Where do I go from here. Is there an exact spot that notches in and locks down this little plunger deal I'm talking about, it sure does not seem to be visible is the slot/notch in this thing just for decoration ?, what is the correct alignment,?

i know the answer to what i've done wrong is everything, but what do i need to do straighten it out

I've rebuilt everything from briggs to VW's to big blocks, outboards to stern drives, I just find it hard to believe that there is so little info available on these things. Aside from timing and control, they are not that much more complicated a pump than a pressure washer pump. Not even a decent drawing in the US, European, or German patent offices. Talk about a trade secret!

Any chance I had it right and something else has gone wrong in the crankings? I did notice that before the over rev that the glowplug dash light had quit working when the key was on initally but did come on after cranking and letting go of the key.
