My 1988 mercedes 230 TE wont start after the mechanic tampered with the Bosch KE Jetronic Misxture Control Unit Adjustment. He cant get it back to the position from where he turned the screw with the allen key as he did not count the turns cw / ccw. This was done as the car would hard start and would go off if the accelerator was released.
The engine cranks well but does not fire and the clyinder and spark plugs are getting flooded with petrol.
The VIN No is WD 124083 2F 072560.
Any suggestions on how to get the mixture adjustment to its original setting or on how to get the engine to start.

Turn the screw counter clockwise to make it lean. You're going to have to change your spark plugs or leave them out to dry now that they are covered in petrol.
If you are going to play around with the screw then you need to monitor the dutycycle reading while you are doing it. See the following link...
Thanks for your reply Yal - we have tried to adjust it counter clockwise but to no effect although it has been turned totally - the flooding continues and eginge does not start. We have already seen the link mentioned by you but I am in a place were I dont have a dutycycle measuring tool - what can I use to moniter this duty cycle? I have replaced the plugs but this has not made any difference.

Yal The Ignation is ok as I have tried a new coil, rotorcap, plugcabels and new spark plugs. There is a strong current at the coil output and at the spark plugs. The fuel pump is working fine and the injectors are also ok.
I drove the car for about 600 kms from Delhi -India in a day to my home town Manali and it performed well. The next morning it started hard and as soon as the accelator was released it would cut off. So I called up the service center at Delhi who are maintaining this car for the last 10 years since I have had it and they sent up the new parts and asked me to get a local mechinic and ask him to open the auxiliary air idle valve by two threads due to the difference in the altitude.
The mechanic persumed that the air mixture screw was the air idle valve and he turned it antoclockwise and since that point it cut off and would not start. He than turned the screw clockwise and acw without counting the threads/turns. On leaning it fully acw it has no effect- still flooding.
I have a simple multimeter with amps/mamps,volts DC/Ac, Ohoms but no duty cycle and I am trying to have one sent up from Delhi after reading your reply. In the meantime an examination of the X11 diagnostic connector I find that all the pins have metel points except for pin 3 which is a plastic hole- what does this mean?
Thanks again for your help which is greatlly appreciated as this is the only merc in this area and the mechanics have no knowlege of the system
The fuel system is a Jetronic KE how ever I dont know if it has an oxygen sensor or lambada signal.
Have gone thru the link that you suggested - more tools that are not available here.
