surging + overrevving idle

Hi All,

Another problem with this 1995 E200 that has popped up.

Symptoms:
Surge+Hesitation on freeway - can feel car slowing down then speeding up
Uneven Idle - sometimes its fine, other times it will shoot up to 1800rpm
Buzzing noise coming from black box on top of engine, AFM?? when IGN=on
Vacuum noise coming from somewhere on slight push of accelerator pedal.

So I guess the main one is this buzzing noise from the air flow meter, I am assuming thats what it is, its mounted to the throttle body. If ppl have a picture of the W124 engine I can point it out.

I think once I fix that buzzing my other problems will go away.

Advice?

Cheers
David

The idle could be injector O-rings ,also the Mass air flow sensor . Fog the throttle body throat with carb cleaner in short basts , let the engine RPM recover . Then see how it runs .

thankyou - that seems to have worked.

no more surge/hest on the freeway or taking off at lights.

I do however still have a funny Idle, sometimes it will want to idle @ 1.5-2k rpm when I stop at lights, of course being in Drive negates this, but if I put it into Neutral then the RPMs rise for about 10 seconds before dropping down.

any ideas on this one?

cheers
d.
