Today I started my 1993 300E and upon start-up the ASR light came on. Thinking this may have been a computer issues, I turned off the ignition to re-start the car to see if the light would go off. When I tried to re-start the car it would not start/would not even turn over, it was if something completely disabled the car from turning over.
Also, the ASR light that you can turn off an on (has a tire with chains on it) is lit up and I cannot turn it off.
I need help! Where do I start? Could it be a fuse/relay?
There is a fuse that will kill the starter relay , its labeled something obscure - Key - dash lights - key lock ? Its key switch - relay -battery -starter would be the components to check . If you hear the starter relay clink , hit the starter rear end with a hammer once , the brushes could be shot and it may turn over.
Also, if it were the starter, why would the ASR light be coming on and the ASR switch be stuck? I will check the relays/fuses however where are these located?
of the dash /on the drivers side - a long black box in the engine compartment .Behind it are the relays .
Unless they are corroded , the fuses are easy to spot if burned. The lid or manual should list fuses -size -and location fine a bright light to inspect them with.
If you don't hear a click ,its the fuse / relay /or wire to the starter . Since it just died my guess is the fuse.
Sorry I didn't reply quicker , I did the Xmas eve down at Moms house .
