500E is one of the best things Benz ever made! I hear Benz hired Porsche to design the suspension for that monster. Wonder if it can beat a 928? BTW 928's (not sure if the 32V applies) is stocked with a mercedes 4.2 block and 722.3 auto trans (where applicable) NICE. Would like to see that race...the stuttgart stalemate!

I didn't even know there were any 4 cylinder gas engines on the 124's in US! I thought they started with 2.6 inline 6. Anyway I love the V8's, the rest all seemed slugish and they don't seem to get better gas mileage.
There were no 4 cylinder 124s in the U.S. so the original poster had to be from somewhere else. Porsche assembled the 500E/E500s in large part due to the fact that their factorys were so under-utilized at the time. Seems hard to believe now but Porsche sales in the early 90s were just horrible.
There is nothing like the beauty and the ride of a '91 300E (6cyl) or the lines and the pep of '88 300E. Own both and will never go back to a BMW. Enjoy the search and appriciate the ride.
Went to look at a private 300 diesel last night. The guy said it was in 'good' condition. When I arrived at his house and saw the thing parked outside I didn't even bother knocking on the door. I thought it was usually potential buyers that were considered time wasters. Asshole.
i've never driven a v8 w124, but what i like about my 3.0 inline 6 is how dam smooth it is. Just a nice silky smooth pull up through the revs. Classic german I-6. Don't let the hp and torque #'s fool you, these engines do have some spice.
