Help Please !!!! 300CE 24 Valve dead

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for my first post to be a request but it appears I have a major problem.
I have recently bought a 300CE 24 Valave 1991 model in anthracite and as i was enjoying the car it decided to just go dead. All the electrics work and the car will turn over it just won't fire up.

I have had a mechanic look at it after having it towed home and he has disclossed to me that it is the Idle control module witch apparently runs the electronic part of the fuel injection. He has quoted me $6500 in Aussie dollars for the is part. Which I know is way overpriced.

My questions are:

Does anyone have the part number for this part. I cannot seem to find the MB part number for this?

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Was it this part?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

More likely to be the fuel pump relay. Very common fault.

Hi Thanks for the reply,

How ever this is not the case. The engine has absolutely no spark coming from the leads.

The distributer, the coil etc have all been checked as well as the cam and knock sensor.

Please can someone help me with the part number for an ignition control sensor.

I have looked at all the numbers on the part and none correspond.

Many thanks

Ignition control module(EZL) or idle control valve? A price like that, if the exchange rate is what I think it is, would have to be the EZL, which indeed are prone to failure in your car. Even then the price is ridiculous. There are several EZL rebuilders in the U.S. In any case you should subscribe to EPC, which is either $3 a month or free, not sure now, and find out exactly what part your car has. Could be a different setup than the U.S. If possible it's nice to be able to swap out the EZL with another car to make sure that's the problem. Here are some hopefully helpful links.

on the early M104s, the ignitino coils can go out and are very expensive. different design for later models.

Early 104 motors, i.e. the pre-HFMs, have only a single ignition coil, which is rather inexpensive ($70-$80) and not particularly prone to failure. These cars still had distributor caps and rotors. I believe the issue here is the ignition control module or EZL which is something else entirely - but some clarification would be helpful.

Hi Guys,

Thanks so much for your replies. It is indeed the Ignition Control Box I believe it is called.

Part number

A 012 545 21 32 or A 012 545 20 32

There seems to be different prices despite it being the same part (funny I know) Spoke to an actual very nice guy at a dealer believe it or not.

The prices are $4572 and $9032 Aussie dollars.

Have spoken to the dealer and the part can easily be used with one from the US as he has checked and it is the same part world wide.
He has advised to replace these parts first.

Distributor Cap and rotor

Cam angle sensor

Crank angle sensor

and the coil

Could any of you knowledgable guys tell me if this would be the correct way to go about things firstly?

Then if I need the part being the Ignition control box sourcing it from the states amy well be the way forward.

Unfortunately i do not know any one with one of these cars so this is about the only way I can go
