Pretty basic stuff really but here goes.
I take my 300CE off the road each winter just before the dreaded salt makes an appearence and usually run it for 20 mins or so every few weeks. Due to other commitments (poorly 600 SEL) I have not run it since October 1st and when I tried it the other day it wouldn't start. The battery is connected to a smart charger at all times so the cranking speed was good, however the usual buzz from the fuel pumps when switching to position 2 on the ignition switch was absent.
As there was no activity from the pumps at all (there are two) I decided it must be the relay / fuse etc. A quick scan at the Haynes manual revealed nothing about the relay location and the Mercedes handbook only lists fuses. Once again this fantastic forum saved the day, a quick search revealing the location of the fuel pump relay behind the plastic cover by the battery. I really should have realised it would be here having replaced the OVP relay some years ago.
On my 1988 UK spec M103 car there are actually two similar looking relays. Ignoring the one marked KLIMA I removed the other one, tapped it gently a couple of times, refitted it and is if by magic the fuel pumps could immediately be heard priming the fuel rail! The car then started first time and has done so several times since.
Many thanks to the forum members who post there experiences here, hope this helps someone with a similar problem. Now if I can just find a fix for the 600 SEL !
