How bad is your leak? if the system will hold pressure for any appreciable length of time you might consider a sealant. i have had excellent results with this product Cliplight Manufacturing - Automotive - Super Seal Premium. It has been over a year since I originally put it in and I have not had to add any refrigerant since.
The cooling ability of the system doesn't seem to be affected either. You have to make sure that the system is bone dry prior to installation.

I hear its a big and costly job , some have good luck with an internal sealer on small slow leaks. Some have sold their cars because of it .

Personally on a +10 yr old car I would modify / adapt an Asian car unit .

Truthfully I haven't "ever" had to add refrigerent. I own this E320 since 1995 and for all intent and purposes I'm original owner. Car had 2K miles and was six months old when I bought it from a plastic surgeon. I've always had the car serviced at my local MB dealer, is in prestine condition, fully documeneted and current in all services. I haven't had A/C problems thus far but was just thinking ahead. I know it's a real bear of a job to get at the evaporator, just hoped someone documented the procedure. Especially the disassembly of the dash/interior.

The dealer techs told me not all E's sufferred from this malady, but all S's did. Possibility exists I may not have a problem. They say if it hasen't occured as yet it's proabaly not going to. Hope so!

Appreciate the interest and advice....
