Replacing the Coils, Plugs, wires, etc. 1994 e320 cabrio

Howdy,

It this a difficult job? It seems straightforward, pop the cover off and get to work. Do the plugs need to be under a certain torque, or just barely tighten them. I would hate to strip the plug threads, as this is what happened with another car with an aluminum engine. I think the e320 has a steel engine, correct? I also saw non-Bosch aftermarket coils for about $60 USD online, or should one pay for the more expensive Bosch parts? Any help would be appreciated...

Any reason to replace the coils? It's not my experience that they (hardly) ever fail on the 104 engine. If you do ALWAYS stay with Bosch or OEM.

No, not a difficult job. If your wiring harness is original expect to replace that too - moving it out of the way will very likely ruin it. You may strip out a bolt or two on the spark plug cover - very common, fixed with helicoils or not fixed at all. Your engine is alloy head and cast iron block. Bosch coils should be less than $60 - I'd stick with those.

it's a pretty straight forward job, tighted the plugs to a point where you are not sweating. And the guy on top is right coils rearly ever go on 104's dont replace them if everything is fine, also make sure to get the correct firing order once yot put everything back in.

good luck
