so i guess it's safe to say that i can use the tranny out of a '93 400E and put it in my '95 E320. great! i will be picking this car up soon and take what i need from it. the rest i will be parting out if anybody is interested in the fs section. thanks everybody for all of your help.

Should be doable. There's something a bit different or they would have the same number, but it shouldn't be much, and you'll have both cars to swap parts.

if the 400E has a bad engine, how do you know that the tranny is in good shape?

Where did you see that 400E?

And to answer your question, The front construction is different for the v8 to fit, the rear axle is a 2.24, bigger brakes ?

i have a friend that works in a salvage yard and knows the condition of the cars he gets. this particular 400E has a bad engine. all else is there.
