i just bought a 92 400E and all i can say is WOW!!! 275 hp in the lap of luxury!!!! Anyway after several burnouts and 120mph runs on the freeway im outa fuel. what octane does this 400E run on?
First, welcome to the board. You will want to put US 91-93 octane in that car ONLY. You might want to fill out your profile so we can know where you are from incase US blended octane numbers to match your location.
This is a 1989 Mercedes 300 TE wagon that was recently completed. The original Mercedes straight 6 was replaced by a 1994 Lincoln Mark VIII 4.6L 32 valve engine and transmission. This is essentially the same motor found in the later Mustang Cobras. The engine is a perfect match for the Mercedes as it is incredibly smooth and free-revving.
Wow! That is some serious coolness there. Even though I'm a diehard for the stock look, that's pretty sweet.

hi mcbear, u look familiar with this;
i have 300CE-24 1992 car and i want to increase th HP on it, since no twin turbo available nowadays for it and i dont prefer custom made turbo, so i think my only option is exhaust system and cat, wats ur suggestions in this? what type of exhaust, cat & size of pipe shall i need and if there is any details on installation since i will use my friend exhaust workshop to do that.
thanks
What if i took off the Air Filter and installed an K&N Set up on there would that be good or even possible and set it up like the turbo w124 on here has???
Been in diesels for over 20 years starting with a lovely '71 220D with crank windows and 4 speed manual.. I'm trying to get some diagnostics info on running problem with my newly purchased '91 300D 2.5 Turbo. The car has 122k and runs great except for Hesitation around 60MPG when I let off the diesel pedal and cruise. Feels like engine miss. Power loss.. If I excellerate even slightly, it goes away. I've changed the inline and canister fuel filters. Local Guru thought it might be clutch chatter. On his suggestion, I added some snake oil to synthetic fluid that's supposed to cure chatter, checked for correct fluid level . No effect. Vacuum seems good.
Car has sat for period of her life. Is there a clogged filter screen that needs cleaning?
This is getting in the way of me and Father- in- law enjoying a great ride. Thanks for any help.
