The Twin Turbo kit cost plus installation plus tuning seems to run up to $7K by the time it is all done.

A motor swap to nearly anything is at least $7K once you buy the motor/tranny, driveshaft issues, electronics, mounting issues, tuning up etc. It usually tries to start plug and play but 40-70 hours of swap time just adds up.

At some point you might look at just buying a 400E or 500E, selling your E320 and having a fully engineered solution that gives you 275-320HP out of the box. For the bump to 400E I know it would be a cheaper option and depending on the quality of 500E, it might be just above break even.

You're being conservative...!!

Brian Murphy @ Willow Automotive ran about 110 manhours, with about 20 - 30 spent trying to resolve issues with the TT kit.

Not many of the "inexpensive" twin turbo kits available...

Totally agree with you about looking for a 500E.

If I didn't have my original 62K mile 1988 Coupe, I wouldn't have put the money into the twin turbo install.

There was a very nice 500E in Cali that just sold on another forum for $18250.00

You couldn't include the cost of a clean well maintained low mileage W124/C124 with a sound stock M103/M104 motor and add a twin turbo with required suspension mods, exhaust, wheels, tires, etc for that price !!!!!

P.S.

The turbos sure love these 40 degree and lower temps...feels like it added about 50HP !!!

As I think more about it, you are right. the 40-70 number is what I have had to write checks for to the guys but that doesn't include my time or other folks that come by that have skills and end up either fabricating or measuring or just adding those extra few gray cells at the right time.

I know we dropped a 350 crate into a Datsun 280Z in 65 total man hours from removal of the original motor to turning the new one on but that was a well planned job and had been done before by all members of the four man team. Once you get into relooming harnesses, it starts getting messy and costly.

AH-MAZING !!!!!

You did it right.....
Built max power with max reliability and real world you'll go as fast if not faster then those that are claiming to build 600-1000HP hand grenades capable of 200MPH.

"POWER THAT DOESN'T GO TO THE GROUND IN A CONTROLLED MANNER IS NO POWER AT ALL "

Post some performance numbers....probably low 5 seconds to sixty or a bit better ?

At 9lbs i was just under 300RWHP but lean at 6000rpm-no matter what,I am convinced that someone that knows the split second unit better than I do can get me safely running at 9psi...Factory Fuel pump in my case could not deliver enough fuel at 5000rpm on up....had to swap to bigger pump

Does anyone know the specifics as to supercharging that motor? I've seen numerous post or people who have tried with various superchargers out there especially with the AMG supercharger but still have not seen a final product or updates from those users. This is something I think someone should eventually tackle. It would be awesome on a E400, E420 or better yet a 500. Something to think about.

Then again, one can dream right?
I know a Guy that can build you the Header turbo/supercharger he builds most of the custom stuff for many shops and guys throughout the States, but does not like his name published...pm me an I can do a conference call it...most of the twin turbo C36 for the forum members he has done

There is a tuner trick when setting up the Split Second for a six cylinder.
Mark at Split Second told us when setting up the R4 file to set at 3 cylinder-2 stroke instead of 6 cylinder-4 stroke.
This gives a better firing pulse.

You're running a four banger?

Give Mark a call at 1-949-863-1359 you should be able to maintain a 12.5:1 under boost.

2.2 4cyl....I just ordered a New 255 LPH pump I still think the bigger pump can't deliver enough volume,I also went for a Griffin aluminum radiator 27x17x3inch....thanks Will try Mark again.
