if your car's transmission is otherwise fine, don't worry about it. this isn't something you need to lose sleep over -- probably some cars do it a little more than others, but so what? it's not any more of a safety issue than trying to launch a stick-shift car uphill.
I still don't think there is anything at all wrong with your transmission. My car is a 2001 with the 722.6 5-speed, and on enough of a slope it will roll backward when I take my foot off the brake at a light. Once you're used to it that's easy enough to work around.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

Fernandez,
Have you done any follow-up to your question?
I haven't exactly been seeking out any hills to try this out, but yesterday I found myself in similar situations as described. In both cases I was on a fairly steep hill and when I released my foot from the brake pedal the car didn't move back whatsoever.
I'm still not too concerned for you as I think this can vary a lot from car to car.
However, have you checked the level of your ATF? This is the first thing that you should look at if you think the transmission is slipping at all.
I can't imagine doing ordinary hillstarts whilst having to coordinate that foot-operated parking brake (what on earth were they thinking of...) and the release handle. But then perhaps that's just me.
Now imagine doing a hill start in a 124 with manual transmission.
Hold the brake pedal, step on clutch, shift into neutral, release clutch, engage the parking brake, release brake pedal, step on clutch, shift into 1st, step on gas slightly, start releasing clutch and pull the release handle at the right moment.
I can tell you it's pretty doable once you get used to it.
So Fernandez, as some other people have also been saying, if your car runs fine otherwise just try to forget about that one small inconvenience.
Packard had it first back in the 50's if I'm not mistaken... All the Mercedes in the 70's, 80's and into the 90's do to my knowledge.. Can't comment on the New ones.
Sorry. Late post. My 94 wagon does the same thing.... I don't consider it anything other than an annoyance and just keep my foot on the brake.

My 300E holds my driveway unless I drop it down to first, then it will roll back. The ML500 will not hold it, it wishes to roll back. It really is a minor issue that hopefully isn't just the tip of the iceberg.
