Replaced the OVP tonight and the problem is solved!! It also made my ABS light go out. I guess it controls that also. The Idle is a little too high so I will have to adjust it but it starts fine now. Thanks for all the info.

so far the mileage is about the same. I've driven it about 100 miles since replacing the ovp and it has barely moved the gauge. Now I must tackle the oil leak.
I have a 1990 300E 24v Sportline that appears to have the same problem as all of you have mentioned. The difference is that my OVP keeps blowing and my garage are struggling to work out what it is. Anybody got any ideas as the bill is getting bigger and bigger.
that used to happen to the fuel pump in my old chevy. What it was for me, and it sounds like the case for you, would be a stripped wire running along the body. friction and time will bare a wire and cause a grounding, or a shorting issue. if the grounding point is bypassing the fuses, you could easily burn up a component repeatedly.
