Where can I find a write up for the replacement for the timinig chain or the tensioners on a 92 400E, it has just over 100K on it and is making quite a racket at startup.

I'm not aware of a write-up for that other than the MB 124 service CD. It's not a real common job - i.e. replacing the entire chain. Early 400E had some trouble with oil starvation on start up and there is a new style oil check valve to help the situation. It's not likely you need a new chain - just a new oil check valve and/or new tensioner. It's a good idea to replace the chain guides as they are plastic and become brittle with age.
