For those of you looking for a good 400E, there is currently one on ebay (190154028675) The car is at Mercedes Benz of Tampa. Today, I drove by and took a look see. This is a garage queen as all the leather is perfect and soft. No cracks or scratches in the consol wood, the locking center roll top is also perfect. Door pockets don't have the edges curling up etc. The only thing I saw wrong was the headliner is sagging and needs to be replaced/repaired.
The car didn't make the reserve when it was first posted, so it's back on again. All the service was done at Lokey Mercedes in Clearwater. It is the dark gray color with light gray interior. Even the armrest is perfect. Starts as it should and blows stone cold air sitting on the lot. It is a 134a system. Has the Bose radio, no trunk mounted CD changer. Rubber is good all around, it is missing the tool kit. I saw one very minor scratch along the edge of the left rear wheel well. Touch up paint would solve that problem.
Sticker price on the window is $10,700 or so. They have now called me 4 times since noon today. The sales manager is now calling to tell me that they will let the car go for $7400 and change and the headliner repair is about $250.
If I could get my wife to let go of her 02 Olds Aurora, I would have it in the garage tonight.. Something about women and the OnStar feature...
If I didn't think so highly of my coupe, I'd get it for myself. It appears to be a keeper that was well taken care of. Another big plus --- NO ASR and no harness problems.
Thanks for posting. I saw it when it first came out but what turned me off was:
"All customers of Mercedes Benz of Tampa will pay a $599 Dealer Fee. The Dealer Conveyance fee applies to all retail sales regardless of the buyers State of Residence"
The description says: Excellent Panels / Headliner. Hmmm?

The dealer "fee" is something that the state of Florida allows and it is not a set amount. I assure you it is something that can be negotiated right out of the deal. I would only assume that "excellent panels" would be of the body type and the car is pretty straight, only the small paint scrape I saw.
The dealer called me again today.. We are now down to $6900 and I told them they were going to have to pound sand for the $599 "fee". I may own this car in another few days if this keeps up. Maybe I'll toss in the 92 300E I just stole from the PO. If I get $500 for the 300, I am money ahead.
$6,900 without the $599 is almost there. You can keep the 300E as a body/interior parts car for the 400E.
I found a 1997 E420 with 18k miles in a MB dealer but they want $15k. I asked them to guarantee the spring perches and transmission. I think $12-13k is fair for the car.

just see if they will provide a third party 100K warranty. With the right company, those are VERY good. Even if you split the cost, you are ahead. Just make sure the spring perches are covered. Tranny will be for sure.
Good advice, mcbear. My thinking is that since it is a dealer, the spring perches would have to be either taken care of or having no problems before delivery, if I buy it. The color is not one of my favorite, it is the "tourmaline green metallic".
